Saturday Best Bet Results
Saturday was again mostly spent following the third round of the U.S. Open, as well as the regular summer menu of MLB, plus watching the Stanley Cup-winning champion Vegas Golden Knights’ parade from the comfort of the Tuley’s Takes home office.
As I’ve mentioned in these columns the last couple of days, I don’t have any bets on the U.S. Open, but I’m in contention in a pool where you get the combined placing of your three-player team. We’re back in first place heading into Sunday’s final round with our threesome of Rickie Fowler (tied for 1st), Dustin Johnson (tied for 6th) and Bryson DeChambeau (tied for 9th). Cheer me home on Sunday, please!

As for our actual bets on Saturday, we went a perfect 2-0 with 1 USFL play and just 1 MLB First 5 Inning wager. We gave out the Pittsburgh Maulers-New Jersey Generals Under 41 to our followers earlier in the week (it closed 40.5). We were a little concerned when 9 points were scored in the first quarter, but it turned into the defensive battle that we expected (also partly limited offenses) as we clearly had the right side the rest of the way in the Maulers’ 26-6 victory.
Our lone MLB play was the Brewers First 5 Innings -110 vs. the Pirates and that was just as easy of a winner as the Brewers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. We knew we had the win after the Pirates were still scoreless after the top of the 5th and the Brewers scored 2 more in the bottom half of the inning to officially make it a 4-0 win. They also coasted to a 5-0 victory for those who bet our plays on the full-game money line.
Our 2-0 mark improved us to 8-6-2 the last 7 days for +$283.64 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks pages. We’re also got back over .500 with our underdog plays at 18-17-6 in June for +$262.28 after being +15.6 units in May.
Let’s look for more plays on Sunday as I have 2 MLB First 5 plays as well as one more USFL pick in the regular-season finale (I really can’t resist as I’m 6-0 ATS with those plays since jumping in just a few weeks ago after the XFL season wrapped up).
MLB Sunday Best Bets
Cardinals First 5 Innings +100 at Mets: Regular readers know that we’ve been relying on our “swagger/anti-swagger” plays with a lot of success this summer, and we have two “swagger” plays on Sunday. The Cardinals snapped a 6-game losing streak in a 5-3 win on Saturday and now try to take that momentum into Sunday’s game. We also like Matthew Liberatore (1-2, 5.14 ERA) vs. Carlos Carrasco (2-3, 5.71 ERA).
Royals First 5 Innings +100 vs. Angels: The Royals, like the A’s, are a team we’ve mostly avoided all season, but they’re in a “swagger” spot after snapping an 11-game losing streak with a confidence-building 9-8 win over the Angels on Saturday, We’re also fine with Zack Greinke (1-6, 4.65 ERA). I kinda like this pitching matchup better, but obviously trust the Cardinals a little more than the Royals.
USFL Sunday Best Bet
Philadelphia Stars pick-’em vs. Michigan Panthers: I should have grabbed the Stars at +1 the past few days as I’m just seeing PK out there as of late Saturday night, but obviously we’re picking the Stars to win outright as we believe they should be favored. Even though we faded the Stars last week when we won with the Generals, they’ve still been better than the Panthers most of the season and should prevail in clinching a playoff spot here. Now, I bet against Philly last week because they had the No. 8 defense in the league (and still ranks last at 26.1 points per game); however, the Stars have the better offense at 22.2 points per game while the Panthers have the worst offense in the league at 16.4 ppp and I don’t expect them to be able to take advantage of the Stars’ usually porous defense. Full disclosure: I don’t think this nearly a much as the Maulers-Generals Under on Saturday as I was touting that as my strongest USFL picks all week, but still believe it’s worth a play.
