Finding Better Values in the NFL Futures Market:

With just over 16 days left to the regular season kickoff, every NFL futures market imaginable is now up across sportsbooks. One of the most important aspects of betting is ensuring you get the best possible number to match your opinion.

Last week, I mentioned the exact order of finish in the NFC North, Lions-Packers +320, as something that I added to my preseason portfolio. If you are confident in two teams in a division, you can use these bets to produce better numbers.

For example, the Lions are +135 to win the division. If you, like me, believe the Lions and Packers are a clear 1-2 then you can take advantage of the exact finish to create a Lions +156 ticket to win the division. By betting $100 on Lions – Packers, you would win $320. The Packers – Lions exact finish is +425. Betting $25 on that result covers your original $100 bet. In that case, you bet a total of $125 and create a better number on the Lions to win the division than the listed odds.

I’m also higher than most on the Raiders, so I have been looking at NFL futures markets to play them Over the win total, but at a better price than the Over 6.5 wins -130. Here are a couple of other ways I can gain exposure to them more uniquely.

Raiders to be an AFC Wild Card Team +500

Chiefs – Raiders Exact order of finish AFC West +375

Raiders Wins Alt Total o8.5 +245

Of the three options, the Chiefs – Raiders exact order of finish jumps out to me. The Chiefs are a clear favorite in the division and I already have an Under ticket on the Chargers at 8.5 wins. While I think the Broncos could be frisky, I doubt they get to 9 wins. If that’s the case, I am getting a better number on the Chiefs-Raiders than the Over alternate win total. I can also cash the exacta without the Raiders being a wild-card team in the AFC.

Based on all of my opinions, the exacta best suits my complete handicap and is much better priced than the other options I have in the win total market.

It is imperative to look at all the NFL futures markets and price shop for the best number that matches your opinion. The massive number of options can be daunting, but you have to see them as opportunities. Spending the extra time to comb through everything will be worth it in the long run.
