Arizona Diamondbacks at Cleveland Guardians:

The Arizona Diamondbacks open a road series on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians and look to give starting pitcher Logan Allen a rude greeting back to the mound. Allen is making his first start for Cleveland since July 6, so this becomes an interesting MLB pick.

Though he has an 8-4 record this season, he has not pitched the way you’d expect a pitcher with that record to perform.

Top MLB Resources:

Allen has a 5.67 ERA, shooting up to 6.42 at home, giving up 1.9 home runs and 3.6 walks per nine innings with a 5.45 fielding independent.

Though the Guardians lead all MLB teams in bullpen ERA, they have to face a Diamondbacks offense that leads the league in scoring with nearly 5.2 runs per game and turn to Zac Gallen to make the start at pitcher.

Gallen has a 3.56 ERA overall this season with only 0.8 home runs allowed per nine innings, but he has been a different pitcher on the road than at home since 2023 started. Gallen has a 2.76 ERA with 0.6 home runs and 1.9 walks per nine innings allowed at home the past two seasons compared to a 4.25 ERA with over 1.2 home runs and 2.7 walks per nine innings allowed.

Entering Sunday, Arizona’s bullpen had a 4.30 ERA, which ranks 23rd among MLB teams. They face a Guardians team whose 4.9 runs per game at home this season rank fourth in the American League.

With Gallen’s struggles on the road, Allen’s issues all season, and both offenses performing well, Monday sets up to be a high-scoring opener.
