WNBA Best Bets:

Don’t look now, but we’ve cashed five consecutive WNBA bets and have a nice three-game slate on tap for Monday night. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will take on the Atlanta Dream, the Seattle Storm host the Washington Mystics, and the Phoenix Mercury host the New York Liberty. Programming note: my college football best bets will begin publishing every Monday throughout the season (starting today), so be on the lookout for those.

Here are Monday’s WNBA projections:

Atlanta Dream vs. Indiana Fever

These two teams were dreadful early in the season, but they have since found a nice rhythm, especially after the Olympic break. Atlanta got Rhyne Howard back from injury, and Indiana is just figuring itself out a little bit as a young but talented team. In this matchup, Indiana is favored by 2.5 on the road with an Over/Under of 166, while TSI projects Atlanta as a 1-point home favorite with a total of 169. I think this number reflects a “Caitlin tax,” which creates an opportunity for us, based on my numbers. Let’s take the Atlanta ML at plus-money.

WNBA Best Bet: Atlanta Dream ML +120 (Play to +100)

Seattle Storm vs. Washington Mystics

Seattle has nestled itself inside the top four of the TSI ratings for the majority of the season, while Washington is a bottom-three team who has dealt with a ton of injuries throughout the year. Seattle is up to a 10-point favorite at DraftKings in this game with an Over/Under of 161, but TSI isn’t quite as confident in a blowout here, projecting Seattle -7 with a total of 162. Washington has shown the ability to play competitive games with anyone but has also played some real clunkers, which is why I have formulas ranging from -5.5 to -9.5 on this game. As Mark Cuban says, “And for that reason, I’m out.” on betting this game.

WNBA Best Bet: Stay away

Phoenix Mercury vs. New York Liberty

Two teams that came out of the Olympic break on absolute fire, the Mercury and Liberty, have both cooled off in the last couple of games and have been much more mortal. From New York’s perspective, having Sabrina Ionescu battling a neck injury could be the culprit, and perhaps the cumulative fatigue of having multiple Olympians on both teams played a role. Nonetheless, these teams will battle with the Liberty favored by 5.5 and an Over/Under of 164. TSI projects Liberty -5.5 with a total of 161. The highest projected total my formulas could come up with was 164, so this will be an Under bet for me if the number continues to climb, but as it stands, we’ll just call it a lean.

WNBA Best Bet: Lean Under 164 (Bet at 165 or better)
